WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Jenn Wakefield (Pickering, Ontario), a freshman forward on the third-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, was named Mission Rookie of the Week by Hockey East on Monday.
In the Wildcats’ only game of the week – an Oct. 21 matchup against Boston University at the Whittemore Center – Wakefield scored the first two goals of the game, including the game-winning tally, and also had an assist in the 3-1 victory. It marked her first multiple-point, and therefore first multiple-goal, game of her career. She gave the ‘Cats a 1-0 lead at 19:04 of the first period and struck again at 4:40 of the middle stanza. Wakefield helped secure the victory with an assist on the empty-net goal in the final minute of regulation.
Wakefield has four points (3g, 1a) in four games this season. She tallied her first career point with a goal in the Oct. 5 season opener at nationally-ranked St. Lawrence University.
New Hampshire (3-1-0 overall, 1-0-0 Hockey East) returns to action Oct. 25 (7 p.m.) at No. 7 Boston College. The Wildcats’ next home game is Oct. 28 (4 p.m.) against the University of Maine.
