WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- Kayley Herman (Weyburn, Saskatchewan), a freshman goaltender on the No. 2 University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, was named Mission Rookie of the Month (for January) by Hockey East on Friday. Herman received the same accolade for November and was the ITECH Goaltender of the Month for December.

Herman, who was honored as Mission Rookie of the Week on Jan. 21, went 4-0-1 with a 0.99 GAA, .938 save percentage and one shutout in playing all five January games for UNH. In three Hockey East league games, Herman was 2-0-1 with a 0.97 GAA. .919 save percentage and one shutout. She was victorious in her only action vs. a nationally-ranked team by stopping 22 of 23 shots (.957 save percentage) at Dartmouth.

In 23 games (22 starts) overall, Herman has compiled a 19-2-1 record with a 1.19 goals-against-average, .932 save percentage and four shutouts. She currently leads the nation in wins and also ranks second in GAA and fifth in both save percentage and minutes.

Including her three monthly accolades, Herman has received seven Hockey East awards this season. She has been honored as Mission Rookie of the Week once each month, including the aforementioned Jan. 21; the other dates were Oct. 8, Nov. 19 and Dec. 17.

UNH (21-3-1 overall, 11-0-1 Hockey East) returns to action Feb. 2 (7 p.m.) at the University of Maine. The Wildcats’ next home game is Feb. 16 (2 p.m.) vs. the University of Vermont as part of Hockey East's "Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer" weekend.
