LEAH CRAIG
WAKEFIELD, Mass.Leah Craig (Seaforth, Ontario), a senior forward on the University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, was honored as Hockey East’s TPS Hockey Player of the Week on Monday. Fellow UNH Wildcats Martine Garland (Toronto, Ontario) and Jenn Wakefield (Pickering, Ontario) were named Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week and Mission Rookie of the Week, respectively.

Craig scored a power-play goal and recorded a game-high eight shots in UNH’s Frozen Four semifinal game, a 3-2 loss against the University of Minnesota-Duluth on March 20. Her 13th goal of the season lifted the Wildcats into a 2-2 tie late in the second period.

Garland, a senior defenseman, tallied an assist on Craig’s power-play goal that tied the game in the second stanza. Her strong play in the defensive zone helped limit UMD to a total of 15 shots – none in the second period.

MARTINE GARLAND
Wakefield, a freshman forward, scored the game’s first goal with an unassisted tally at 4:00 of the first period to give UNH a 1-0 lead in that semifinal game at UMD. She finished with a plus/minus rating of +1 and five shots on goal.

UNH ended the season at 33-4-1 to tie the school benchmark for wins in a single season. The Wildcats advanced to the NCAA Women’s Ice Hockey Championship for the third consecutive year and to the Frozen Four for the second time in three years.
