WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Jenn Wakefield (Pickering, Ontario), a freshman forward on the second-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, was named the Mission Rookie of the Month (for October) by Hockey East on Thursday.

Wakefield, who was named Mission Rookie of the Week twice (Oct. 22 &29) during the month, compiled five goals and three assists for eight points in six October games; she also compiled a plus/minus rating of +7 and netted the game-winning goal vs. Boston University on Oct. 21. She is currently ranked 10th nationally in goals per game as well as 19th in points per game and third among rookie scorers.

Wakefield recorded four goals and three assists for seven points in three league games and tallied 3-1-4 in three games vs. nationally-ranked teams. She recorded a point in four of six games with two multiple-point efforts as she tallied 2-1-3 in consecutive games vs. BU and Boston College. Wakefield was UNH’s top goal scorer in October, tied for the team lead in points and was second in shooting percentage (.179).

New Hampshire returns to action Nov. 1 (7 p.m.) at Boston University, then Nov. 3 (7 p.m.) at the University of Vermont.
