WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Kelly Paton (Woodstock, Ont.), a junior forward on the fifth-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, was honored as TPS Hockey Player of the Week by Hockey East on Monday.
Paton tallied five points (three goals, two assists) and a +3 rating to propel UNH to a pair of wins against (then) fifth-ranked Boston College and, with that, first place in the league standings. She recorded her first career hat trick, which included the game-winning goal, in a 5-2 road win Jan. 30. Paton scored the first and third goals to lead the Wildcats to a 3-0 advantage, and she netted a shorthanded goal with 2:08 remaining in the game to secure the victory. In the 4-2 home win Jan. 29, she recorded two second-period assists, including one on the game-winning tally, in a three-minute span to give the ‘Cats a 3-0 lead.
Paton, who has a six-game point-scoring streak, has amassed 15 goals and 15 assists for 30 points in 25 games this season. She ranks 24th in the nation in goals per game as well as 22nd in power-play goals (five). Paton has a team-best .214 shooting percentage and is second in goals, power-play goals and points; she is also fourth in both assists and plus/minus (+14).
In 98 career games, Paton has totals of 37 goals and 57 assists for 94 points.
New Hampshire (15-5-5, 10-2-3) returns to action Feb. 7 (2 p.m.) at the University of Vermont. The Wildcats’ next home game is Feb. 14 (7 p.m.) against Providence College.
