COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Kacey Bellamy (Westfield, Mass.), a senior defenseman and captain of the 2009 University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, was named to the U.S. Women’s Select Team by USA Hockey on Wednesday.
Bellamy, one of 18 members on the 22-player roster who won a gold medal at the 2008 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Women’s Championship in April, will compete at the Women’s Four Nations Cup in Lake Placid, N.Y., from Nov. 4-9 against Sweden, Canada and Finland.
Bellamy won a silver medal as a member of the U.S. team at the Four Nations Cup in 2006 and 2007. Last April at the IIHF World Championship, she tallied two assists, including one on the game-winning goal, in the gold-medal game to lead the U.S. to a 4-3 victory against Canada.
In her junior year at UNH, Bellamy recorded three goals and 23 assists for 26 points in 35 games to rank 23rd in the nation in assists per game and 10th amongst defensemen in points per game. She was selected to the Hockey East All-Star Second Team for the second consecutive year and was the recipient of UNH’s Colleen Coyne Award (top defenseman) in 2008. Bellamy has compiled 79 points (21 goals, 58 assists) in 108 career games, which ranks 11th on the program’s all-time points list for defensemen.
