MINTON GARNERS HOCKEY EAST ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONOR

WAKEFIELD, Mass.  – Lindsey Minton (Richardson, Texas), a freshman goaltender on the fifth-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, was named Mission Rookie of the Week by Hockey East on Monday. Minton received the same distinction Dec. 15.

Minton backboned UNH to a sweep of the home-and-home series against Providence College with a .923 save percentage and 1.50 GAA.

In Saturday’s 4-1 win that clinched the league tournament’s top seed for the ‘Cats, Minton stopped a flurry of four shots with PC on a 6x3 advantage early in the third period, and that effort preserved a three-goal lead; she finished the game with 16 saves.

Friday on the road, Minton fended off PC, which had a 6x4 advantage for the final 51 seconds, with a pair of saves in the last minute to secure a 3-2 win; she was credited with 20 saves overall.

Minton, who has started each of the last three games, is 7-0-0 overall with a 1.62 GAA, .916 save percentage and one shutout in nine games (seven starts). In eight Hockey East games, she has a 1.37 GAA and .929 save percentage.

UNH (19-5-5 overall, 14-2-3 Hockey East), winners of 10 consecutive games, returns to action Feb. 17 (7 p.m.) at Harvard University. The Wildcats conclude the regular season Feb. 21-22 against the University of UConn. UNH’s Senior Day is Feb. 22 at 2 p.m.

New Hampshire will be the site of the Hockey East semifinals and final on March 7-8. Tickets will go on sale later this week.
