WAKEFIELD, Mass.
– Kristina Lavoie (Fonthill, Ontario), a
freshman forward on the fourth-ranked University of New Hampshire
women’s ice hockey team, was selected Bauer Rookie of the
Week by Hockey East on Monday.
Lavoie extended her goal-scoring streak to eight games – the
longest by a Wildcat this season – with one goal in both
games last weekend at the University of Maine. In the Saturday,
Jan. 31 victory, she scored the first goal of the game at 5:39 of
the first period to give the Wildcats a lead they would not
relinquish en route to a 3-1 win. Lavoie had closed the scoring
with a third-period goal in Friday’s 5-2 win against the
Black Bears; she recorded a game-high six shots in that game.
This marked Lavoie’s third league award this season. She was
honored as the Rookie of the Month for December and the Bauer
Rookie of the Week on Jan. 11.
In 24 games this season, Lavoie has recorded 13 goals and nine
assists for 22 points to rank fifth in the nation in rookie scoring
at 0.92 points per game. She leads UNH rookies in both goals and
points, and overall those numbers rank second on the team in goals
and third in points. Lavoie is also tied for the team lead in
power-play goals (five) and she is 17th in the nation with that
total. Furthermore, Lavoie has the second-highest shooting
percentage (.188) on the team and she is third in plus/minus
(+10).
New Hampshire (15-4-5 overall, 9-3-2-0) returns to action Feb. 3 (7
p.m.) at the University of Vermont. The Wildcats’ next home
game is Feb. 6 against Boston University. Game time at the
Whittemore Center is 2 p.m.
