LONG FETED AS co-PLAYER OF THE WEEK BY HOCKEY EAST
WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- Micaela Long
(South Boston, Mass.), a senior forward on the seventh-ranked
University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team, was named
co-Player of the Week by Hockey East on Monday. Long was also
selected the league's Player of the Week on Dec. 14.
Long scored her 13th goal of the season in UNH's 2-1 loss to
second-ranked University of Minnesota-Duluth in a March 13 NCAA
quarterfinal game. Her tally lifted the Wildcats into a 1-1 tie at
5:42 of the first period.
Long finished the season with 13 goals and 38 assists for 51 points
in 33 games played -- the assist and point totals are both personal
single-season highs. She led the team in assists and tied for the
lead in points; Long also ranked second in plus/minus (+15) and
power-play goals (six). In national statistics, Long is currently
ranked second in assists per game and sixth in points per game.
Long's other 2010 Hockey East accolades included First Team
All-Star and Humboldt Storage and Moving Scoring Champion. She was
also one of 45 candidates under consideration for the Patty
Kazmaier Memorial Award as the most outstanding women's college
hockey player.
In 143 career games, Long amassed 48 goals and 78 assists for 126
points.
UNH finished the 2010 season with a 19-9-5 overall record following
the NCAA quarterfinal game at UMD.
