UNH Women's Lax Defeats Holy Cross, 12-10

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Colleen Christopher (Hampton Falls, N.H.) netted four goals and Sue Yund (Castleton. N.Y.) recorded a hat trick to lead the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team to a 12-10 victory at Holy Cross on Wednesday afternoon.

UNH (4-5) trailed 9-8 with 10:17 remaining, but Yund tied the game at 10:06 and Christopher potted goals at 8:42 and 5:39 to give the Wildcats an 11-9 lead. Meagan Clavin (Hanover, N.H.; two goals) increased the advantage to three goals at 2:21. Jen Amendola of Holy Cross (2-9) scored her sixth goal of the game with 1:07 to play to close the scoring.

Freshman goalkeeper Danielle Martin (Ellicott City, Md.) played the final 10:17 of the game and recorded two saves to earn her first collegiate victory. Starting keeper Amanda Warren (Amherst, N.H.) made seven saves in 50 minutes of action.

There were numerous mini-spurts in the first half. UNH took a 1-0 lead,but Holy Cross netted the next three goals. The 'Cats then tied the game on goals by Yund and Christopher before the Crusaders re-established a two-goal cushion (5-3). UNH rallied to tie the game on goals by Yund and Jessie Groszkowski (Reistertown, Md.; two goals, assist). The game was tied, 6-6, at the half.

UNH's other goal was scored by Megan Mangano (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.). Mangano also had two assists, as did Steph Keefe (Newton, Mass.).

HC goalkeeper Kellaigh Malangone recorded nine saves.

UNH returns to action April 14 when the Wildcats play host to No. 8 Delaware. Game time at Memorial Field is 3:30 p.m. The Cats are also at home April 16 (noon) against Towson.
