New Hampshire lax falls to Dartmouth, 13-4

HANOVER. N.H. Seniors Amy Zimmer and Liz Merritt each scored three goals, leading the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team to a 13-4 victory over New Hampshire in the season-opener for both squads.

The Wildcats got on the board first when Meagan Clavin scored just 1:01 into the game.

Merritt and Jen Newitt answered for Dartmouth before Christine Anneberg tied it at 2-2 with 5:37 gone.

The Big Green then scored five before halftime, including free position goals by Katy Cuneo and Suzy Gibbons, for a 7-3 lead at the break.

Jessie Groszkowski got New Hampshire back within three, 7-4, 16 seconds into the second half, but Dartmouth finished the game with six straight goals, including two by Zimmer and freshman Kate Killen.

Zimmer and Killen also added a pair of assists to their totals, while freshman Lana Smith had four. Gibbons netted two goals and one assist.

In goal, Sarah Hughes had seven saves for the Big Green, while UNH's Danielle Martin made 10 before Amanda Warren came on for two saves in the final 11:45.
