BOSTON -- Katie Leland (Timonium, Md.) and Laura Dosdall (Wellesley, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team were named Player of the Week and Defender of the Week, respectively, by America East on Monday.
Leland, a sophomore attack, carried the Wildcats to three victories last week with 10 goals and three assists for 13 points. She recorded two goals, including the game-winner, and an assist in UNH's 7-6 victory Saturday at Boston University; she recorded all three points in the second half, in which the 'Cats outscored the Terriers 4-3. One day later, UNH trailed 8-5 in the second half vs. Rutgers but Leland scored three consecutive goals and set up the game-winner to lead the 'Cats to a 9-8 victory with a total of seven points. Leland matched her career high of five goals and also had two assists vs. the Scarlet Knights. Leland also netted three goals in the team's 14-11 win vs. Harvard last Wednesday.
Dosdall, a junior midfielder, made a significant impact at both ends of the field during UNH's 3-0 week. She recorded eight ground balls, two caused turnovers and three draw controls, and contributed offensively with three points, all on goals. In UNH's win at BU, Dosdall recorded two ground balls and scored two goals, including one on an end-to-end rush that gave the Wildcats a 3-2 first-half lead. She finished with a game-high six ground balls vs. Rutgers and against Harvard she had three draw controls, two caused turnovers and a goal. Leland leads the team in points (53) and assists (19), and she is second in goals with 34. She ranks second in America East in all three offensive statistics.
Dosdall has 12 points this season on 10 goals and two assists. She ranks second on the team in both ground balls and caused turnovers. New Hampshire, which has won eight consecutive games, returns to action April 23 at home against Binghamton University. Game time at Memorial Field is 3:30 p.m.
