UNH's Von Bargen receives league's rookie award

BOSTON -- Sarah Von Bargen (East Seatauket, N.Y.), a freshman on the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team, was named co-recipient of the America East Rookie of the Week award, the league announced Monday.

Von Bargen leads UNH in goals (13), points (14) and draw controls (eight) through four games this season, and her five caused turnovers is tied for second on the team. She has scored at least one goal and recorded multiple points, including a six-goal effort March 11 vs. Marist College, in all four games. That six-goal effort helped propel UNH to its first win of the season, 20-8 vs. the Red Foxes.

Von Bargen also netted three goals vs. third-ranked Dartmouth and at Yale. Her collegiate career opened Feb. 28 vs. College of the Holy Cross and Von Bargen recorded her first point on a goal that gave the 'Cats a 9-8 lead in the 51st minute, and she finished the game with one goal and one assist.

UNH (1-3) returns to action March 14 (3 p.m.) at Vanderbilt University and also plays Towson University on March 16 (3:30 p.m.) on this week's road trip. The Wildcats' next home game is March 25 (3 p.m.) vs. Brown University.
