BOSTON -- Kristin Blanchette (Sudbury, Mass.), a senior captain and midfielder on the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team, was named Player of the Week by America East on Monday.
Blanchette led UNH to conference victories last week against both Vermont (14-4) and University of Maryland-Baltimore County (20-9) with a total of 12 points on eight goals and four assists. She began the week by matching her personal best of six points on the strength of a career-high four assists, including one on the game-winning tally, at Vermont. Blanchette followed that up with a career-high six goals, including the game-winning tally, against UMBC to once again match her single game best point output. She moved into 10th place on UNH's career goals list with the third of her six tallies in that game. Blanchette also recorded four draw controls, two ground balls and one caused turnover on the week.
Blanchette ranks second on the team in points (34), assists (12), ground balls (33), free position goals (six) and game-winning goals (two). In addition, she is tied for fourth in caused turnovers (10) as well as fifth in both goals (22) and draw controls (15).
In 65 career games, Blanchette has compiled 129 points on 96 goals and 33 assists.
It marked the second consecutive week and third time this season that a UNH Wildcat was honored as the conference's Player of the Week. Fellow senior captain Katie Leland earned that distinction both April 3 and March 20.
New Hampshire has won six consecutive games to improve to 7-4 overall and climb to the top of the America East standings at 3-0. The Wildcats return to action April 12 at home vs. Harvard University. Game time is 4 p.m. UNH then continues its four-game homestand April 18 (1 p.m.) vs. Binghamton University.
