UNH lax duo sparks North to 18-13 victory

BALTIMORE, Md. – Kristin Blanchette (Sudbury, Mass.) and Katie Leland (Timonium, Md.), senior captains on the 2006 University of New Hampshire women’s lacrosse team, both scored a second-half goal to spark the North team to an 18-13 victory against the South in the 2006 STX Farewell Festival Division I game June 10 at Johns Hopkins University.

With the North squad trailing 9-7 at halftime, Blanchette fueled a 6-0 run by winning a draw control and setting up a goal by Abby VanDeusen (UConn) that gave the North a lead it would not relinquish at 10-9. Blanchette, ranked eighth on UNH’s all-time goals list (112) and ninth in points (151), then scored the last of the six consecutive tallies to give her squad a 13-9 advantage.

Leland, UNH’s career leader in both goals (179) and points (270) and school record holder for goals both in a game (nine) and season (90), extended the North’s advantage to three goals, 15-12, with her second-half tally.
