BALTIMORE, Md. – Michaela Hardy (Reading, Mass.), a senior midfielder on the University of New Hampshire women’s lacrosse team, is one of 20 student-athletes featured in an Inside Lacrosse magazine article entitled “Women’s Names to Know in 2009” in the February issue.
The article is “a look at the biggest women’s lacrosse players in the land for the spring … the players that you’ll want to look up in the box scores every week this year.”
Hardy was named to the 2008 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-America Third Team as well as the IWLCA All-Academic Team and IWLCA Northeast Region First Team last year. Her conference honors included America East Women’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year, All-Academic Team and All-Conference First Team.
Hardy ranked 30th in the nation in goals per game (2.74) and led UNH in goals (52), points (59), caused turnovers (26) and shots (128). She also ranked fourth on the team in both assists (seven) and ground balls (24). Her 52 goals is No. 8 on the program’s list of single-season superlatives. With 22 goals in six league games, Hardy was the America East leader in goals per game (3.67), and she also tied for first in caused turnovers per game (1.50).
Hardy’s 2008 highlights included a seven-goal game at Stony Brook University and a seven-point effort (5g, 2a) vs. the University of Oregon. She carries a 16-game goal- and point-scoring streak into the ’09 season.
New Hampshire opens the year Feb. 22 at home against Bryant University. Game time is 1 p.m. at Memorial Field.
