CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sarah Von Bargen (East Setauket, N.Y.), a senior attacker on the 13th-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s lacrosse team, was honored as Player of the Week by America East for the second consecutive week, the league announced Monday.
Von Bargen continued her torrid scoring streak with 11 goals and two assists for 13 points in two games last week. She scored five goals against second-ranked University of Maryland and also had two draw controls in that March 15 game. She scored all three of the team’s first-half goals and had pulled the ‘Cats within 6-3.
Von Bargen opened the week with a career-high eight points to lift UNH to an 11-9 overtime win at Harvard on March 11. She matched her personal best of six goals and also tallied three draw controls and one caused turnover. Von Bargen scored the first two goals of the game and struck twice more before the end of the half to lead UNH to a 7-5 halftime lead. Her goal with 6:15 remaining in regulation broke and 8-8 tie, and she closed the scoring late in overtime to secure the victory.
Von Bargen, the only Wildcat with a point in all seven games this season, extended her goal-scoring streak to 19 games (16 straight multiple-goal efforts). She has tallied 33 goals and five assists for 38 points in seven games to lead the team in both goals and points and America East in goals per game (4.71) and points per game (5.43).
In 57 career games, Von Bargen has amassed 145 goals and 25 assists for 170 points to rank fifth on UNH’s goals leaderboard and seven in points.
New Hampshire (5-2 overall, 0-0 America East) returns to action March 18 at home against the University of Massachusetts. Game time at Memorial Field is 3 p.m.
