SIMPSON HONORED AS WOMEN'S LAX ROOKIE OF THE WEEK BY AMERICA EAST
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Jenny
Simpson (New Canaan, Conn.), a freshman attacker on the
University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team, was named Rookie
of the Week by the America East conference on Monday. Simpson
received the same honor March 8.
Simpson recorded five goals and an assist to propel UNH to a 14-10 victory against Fairfield University on March 28; both the five goals and six points marked career highs and she was honored as the America East Player of the Game. She scored the initial two goals of the game to give the Wildcats an early 2-0 lead and also set up the fourth goal to spark the 'Cats to a 6-0 lead. In the second half, all three of Simpson's goals extended UNH's lead from two goals to three (at 8-5, 10-7 and 13-10). She was also credited with one ground ball, one caused turnover and one draw control.
Simpson ranks third on the team in goals (10) and is tied for fourth in points (13) despite missing two games due to injury. She has scored 10 goals on 15 shots for a team-best .667 shooting percentage.
New Hampshire (5-3 overall) returns to action March 31 (4 p.m.) at Yale. The Wildcats' next home game is April 3 vs. UMBC. Game time at Memorial Field is 1 p.m.
