WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- Amber Casiano (South Windsor, Conn.), a freshman midfielder on the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team, received the Rookie of the Week award from America East for the second consecutive week on Monday.
Casiano recorded two goals as well as two ground balls, one caused turnover and three draw controls in the Wildcats' 17-8 victory against Binghamton University on April 17. She opened the game scoring at 28:09 and that sparked a three-goal run in a span of 1 minute, 57 seconds that gave UNH a lead it would not relinquish. Casiano's other goal was the second of four consecutive goals at the outset of the second half that transformed a five-goal halftime advantage into a 13-4 lead.
This marked the fourth consecutive week and fifth time overall a UNH student-athlete has received this accolade. Jenny Simpson (New Canaan, Conn.) was previously honored March 8 & 29 as well as April 5.
Casiano has started eight consecutive games and played in 11 of 13 games this season. She has scored two goals three times during her active four-game goal-scoring streak, and that includes the last two games against Binghamton and Stony Brook University. Overall, Casiano has seven goals and one assist for eight points. She has also been credited with five ground balls, four caused turnovers and eight draw controls.
New Hampshire (9-4 overall, 3-1 America East) returns to action at home April 24 against the University at Albany. Start time for the Senior Day game at Memorial Field is 1 p.m.
