Keagins Voted 2012 America East Women's Lacrosse Fans' Choice Player of the Year
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Kate Keagins (Bay Shore, N.Y.), a senior midfielder and captain on the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team, was announced the recipient of the 2012 America East Women's Lacrosse Fans' Choice Player of the Year award. Voting was conducted on the America East Facebook page from May 24-30.
As UNH's representative on the seven-player ballot, Keagins received 31 percent of the votes cast (338 of 1,079) for the women's award. She beat out the league's reigning Player of the Year, Danielle Etrasco of Boston Universtiy (28%; 307 votes), as well as 2011 Fans' Choice recipient Samantha Stern of the University of Vermont (20%; 213) for the 2012 honor. Keagins was also a nominee for the award in 2010 and 2011.
Keagins leads the Wildcats in ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers, and she is tied atop the leaderboard in points (38); she ranks second in both goals (29) and shots (59), as well as third in shooting percentage (.492). With 28 caused turnovers in 15 games (14 starts), Keagins is the America East conference leader and is No. 15 in the nation in that statistic. In conference-only games, she was UNH's second-leading point producer with 17 (11 goals, six assists) in six games.
Keagins has recorded a point in all 15 games this season, and dating back to last season she has an active 20-game point-scoring streak. Her goal-scoring streak ended at 17 games April 28 at Stony Brook University with a two-assist effort against the Seawolves.
New Hampshire closes the 2012 season May 1 (4 p.m.) at 18th-ranked Boston College.
