CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Laura McHoul (Westwood, Mass.), a freshman attack on the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team, was tabbed America East Rookie of the Week on Monday. McHoul also received the honor Feb. 18.
McHoul recorded a total of 12 points (three goals, nine assists) on UNH's 17 goals in two games last week. She tallied career highs in both assists (seven) and points (nine) to lead the Wildcats to a 13-12 comeback victory at Binghamton University on April 6. McHoul also recorded a career-high three ground balls and a caused turnover in that game.
The nine points mark the highest total by a Wildcat since May 2010 and her seven assists are the most since March 1996. McHoul tallied one goal and three assists during UNH's 5-0 second-half run that transformed a four-goal deficit into a 12-11 lead against the Bearcats.
Earlier in the week, McHoul recorded three points (one goal, two assists) against the University of Vermont. She also tallied a career-high two caused turnovers as well as two ground balls vs. UVM.
McHoul has started all 11 games and recorded 34 points on 11 goals and team-high 23 assists. She ranks second on the team in points and fifth in draw controls (nine). McHoul recorded a point in her first eight games and has tallied a point in 10 of 11 games with nine multiple-point efforts; that includes six multiple-point performances and four multiple-goal games.
She recorded five assists in her collegiate debut Feb. 16 at Hofstra University and followed that with a personal-best three goals against UMass (Feb. 23). McHoul had three assists at Dartmouth College (Feb. 28) and at Navy (March 13).
This is the second consecutive week and third time overall this season a UNH Wildcat has been feted America East Rookie of the Week. Nicole Grote (Ellicott City, Md.) received the distinction last week.
New Hampshire (4-7 overall, 1-2 America East) returns to action April 10 against regional rival Boston College. Game time at Memorial field is 4 p.m.
