ARCHAMBAULT-LEGER SELECTED TO ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA THIRD TEAM
TOWSON, Md. - Veronique
Archambault-Leger (Verdun, Quebec) of the University
of New Hampshire ski team was voted to the ESPN The Magazine
Academic All-America Third Team for the Women's At-Large University
Division, as announced by CoSIDA on Thursday.
Archambault-Leger, a junior alpine skier with a 3.93
grade-point-average in chemical engineering, was elected from a
pool of district candidates following her selection to the District
1 University Division First Team in May.
She is the eighth UNH student-athlete overall and third this
decade to garner Academic All-America recognition; the previous
most recent honoree was Matt Shump (men's soccer) in 2005.
Archambault-Leger is the first ‘Cat named to an At-Large
team.
Archambault-Leger garnered All-America honors in both the slalom
and giant slalom at the 2009 NCAA championship, where she placed
seventh in slalom and 10th in the giant slalom. She finished in the
top-5 six times during the '09 carnival season and was the top
‘Cat in all six of those races. In the opener at Bates,
Archambault-Leger took fourth place in the slalom and fifth place
in the giant slalom. The following week at UNH, she placed third
overall in the slalom. That was her highest placing of the season;
she also took third in the giant slalom at UVM.
Archambault-Leger's other accolades this season included NCAA
All-Academic Team and All-East Second Team.
The 13 eligible sports for the women's at-large team are: bowling,
crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey,
lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming & diving, tennis and water
polo.
