Egan Helps Ski Team Rally to Finish 3rd at Colby College Winter Carnival
CARRABASSETT VALLEY/WEST FARMINGTON, Maine – University of New Hampshire Nordic skiers Clare Egan, Anya Caldwell Bean and Liz Guiney teamed up to place second in the women's 3x5 freestyle relay, headlining the Wildcats' overall third-place finish at the Colby College Winter Carnival on Saturday afternoon.
With 696.5 team points, UNH finished behind carnival winner Vermont (991.0) and second place Dartmouth College (867.0) in the second EISA carnival of the season.
Egan, Bean and Guiney earned 106 points, runner-up to Dartmouth's 116, by finishing the 3x5 free in a combined time of 1 hours, 8 minutes, 24.5 seconds.
The men's alpine team, with 121 points, finished second to Vermont (131) in the slalom. Paul Atkinson led a run of four Wildcats in the top 10, placing second in a time of 1:18.67. Taylor Burton (Breckenridge, Colo.) notched fourth place by recording a time of 1:20.55. Sam Coffey (Snowmass, Colo.) took eighth (1:20.90) and Zach Clayton (Manassas, Va.) came home ninth (1:20.92) for the Wildcats. Finishing just outside the top 10 was Chad Lawrence, who tied for 11th in a time of 1:21.13.
The men's Nordic trio of Steven Bedard (Cheshire, Mass.), Andrew Clemence (Falmouth, Maine) and Dan Guiney (Park City, Utah) finished fourth in the 3x5 free with 86 points (:54:15.0), an event captured by Dartmouth (116).
(Mont-Tremblant, Quebec) was the top 'Cat finisher in women's slalom, earning 11th
place with a time of 1:29.54. Other notable Wildcat performances were turned in by JoAnna Coffey
(Snowmass, Colo., T-19th
, 1:30.22) and Jacqueline Lebel
(Truckee, Calif., 25th
, 1:33.14). UNH finished fifth in the race with 73.5 points, and Vermont won the race, tallying 141 points.
