DURHAM, N.H. – University of New Hampshire ski coordinator and Nordic skiing head coach Cory Schwartz announced Wednesday that student-athletes Lizzie Gill and Teagan Yutrzenka have signed national letters of intent to join the UNH skiing program in the fall of 2013.
Gill, 17, is a native of Bozeman, Mont., who will join the Nordic ski team on the heels of a successful career for coaches Dragan Danevski and UNH alumni Tim Baucom and Andrew Morehouse at the Bridger Ski Foundation. She placed 15th in the 5K classic and 17th in the 10K skate at the 2012 Junior Nationals. Gill was a 2011 USSA Championship All-American and J2 Nordic cross-country state champion. In 2010, she garnered the Bridger Ski Foundation Nordic Best Rookie award and was voted the team MVP.
Yutrzenka, 18, comes to Durham from Anchorage, Alaska, and coaches Jan Buron and Ben Arians of the Alaska Winter Stars. In 2012, the Nordic skier placed 12th in the 5K classic at U.S. Nationals and took 12th place in the 10K skate at Junior Nationals; she placed second in the 3x3K relay at Juniors. Yutrzenka notched an 11th-place finish in the 10K classic and third in the 3x3K relay at the 2011 Junior Nationals to go along a finish of sixth overall in the Alaska Nordic Skiing State Championship.
"We are excited to add two very talented skiers in Lizzie and Teagan to the Wildcat family," Schwartz said. "Both of them have experience competing on a national level, and we have high expectations for them at UNH."
