Izzo's Nordic Win Leads Skiing to Third Place at St. Lawrence Carnival
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Elizabeth Izzo (Lake Placid, N.Y.) posted a victory in the women's 3K prologue freestyle to headline a team race victory for the University of New Hampshire women's Nordic skiing team and an overall third-place finish at Saturday's final day of the St. Lawrence Carnival.
UNH accumulated 748.5 points to place behind carnival winner Vermont (1,013 points) and runner-up Dartmouth (789).
Izzo notched a race-winning time of 9 minutes, 12.6 seconds to score 50 of the Wildcats' 130 points. Anya Caldwell Bean (Wolfeboro, N.H.) took fourth place (41 points) in 9:14.1, and Annika Taylor (Truckee, Calif.) registered fifth place in 9:22.2 for 39 points.
The top 'Cat in the men's 3K prologue free was Sam Reed (Keene, N.H.), who collected 24.5 points by virtue of his 22nd-place time of 8:19.5. Per Lindgren (Pitea, Sweden) finished in 26th place (8:21.3) for 22 points, and his brother Erik Lindgren (Pitea, Sweden) collected 20 points by finishing 28th (8:22.8). UNH finished ninth in the race with 52 points.
On the alpine side, Coley Oliver (Salt Lake City, Utah) paced the men's team by taking third place in the slalom with a combined time of 1 minute, 23.04 seconds for 44 points. Sam Coffey (Snowmass, Colo.) secured fifth place in 1:23.50 for 39 points, and Jay Ogle (Pittsfield, Mass.) tallied 23 team points by finishing in 18th place (1:25.73). With 106 points, the Wildcats finished in third place behind Middlebury (118) and UVM (115).
Catherine Blanchard (Eastman, Quebec) headlined the women's alpine team results with a sixth-place finish of 1:30.66 (37 points) in the SL. Caroline Barry (Pittsfield, Mass./1:34.12, 23 points) and Randa Teschner (Petawawa, Ontario/1:34.20, 22 points) finished in 21st and 22nd place, respectively, as the Wildcats totaled 82 points to tie for fourth place.
