ORONO, Maine - The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team opened up the season with a double overtime loss on the road, falling to St. John's University 2-1 Saturday. The game was played at the University of Maine as part of the Maine Tournament. UNH fell to 0-1-0 on the season.
UNH's lone goal was scored in the second half by sophomore Sarah Sargent (Glastonbury, Conn.) with just over six minutes remaining.
UNH managed 20 shots on goal, while Wildcat goalkeeper junior Stephanie Springer (Solana Beach, Cal.) picked up four saves.
The Wildcats finish the tournament Sunday against Miami at noon. The 'Cats first home game is Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. vs. Holy Cross.
