STORRS, Conn. - The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team fell to 4-2 Sunday with a 3-1 loss to West Virginia. UNH had won four straight before picking up the loss in the University of Connecticut tournament.
Junior Sue Abbene (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) scored the 'Cats only goal on a penalty kick with just over five minutes remaining in the second half.
Junior goalkeeper Stephanie Springer (Solana Beach, Calif.) allowed all three goals, after allowing only four goals in the five previous games combined. Her goals against average rose from 0.75 to 1.17 and she recorded one save for the second straight game.
West Virginia (5-3) led 1-0 at the half and scored two more, both off rebounds, in the second half to put the game away.
UNH's next game is at home on Friday, Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. against Boston University. The game will be UNH's first America East game this season.
