Drexel University junior Nikki DeHorsey (North Wildwood, N.J./Wildwood) angled in a low shot with 1:29 remaining in regulation to give the Dragons the 1-0 America East Conference victory over visiting University of New Hampshire this afternoon at Drexel Field. The win, Drexel’s second-ever in league play, snapped a six-game losing skid and improved the team to 4-10-1 (2-4-0), marking the highest win total in the program’s four-year history. UNH suffered its third straight loss, falling to 6-9-1 (2-5-1).
DeHorsey picked up a loose ball off a throw-in by freshman Lauren Reese (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg) that found its way through the UNH defense and directed it low into the far post from 12 yards out for her first goal of the season. Senior keeper Joy Banares (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) needed just two saves to tally her third shutout victory of the season. The Dragons held New Hampshire to just one second-half shot on goal and defeated the Wildcats for the first time in four meetings. Sophomore Angeline Alexakos (Bedford, N.H./Manchester West) recorded two of New Hampshire’s five shots on goal.
