New Hampshire Women's Soccer Selected Fifth In Preseason Poll

BOSTON, Mass. - The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team was selected fifth with 55 points in the America East Preseason Women's Soccer Poll, as voted by the conference coaches and released Tuesday.

UNH, which has advanced to the America East Championships three of the last five years, finished tied for sixth with a 2-6-1 conference mark in 1999 and compiled an overall mark of 6-10-1. This year's squad features six Granite Staters, including leading scorer Angeline Alexakos (Bedford, N.H.), and senior co-captains Andrea Encarnacao (Wakefield, Mass.) and Marky Solomon (Foster, R.I.).

Three-time defending champion University of Hartford received eight No. 1 votes and sits atop the preseason poll with 98 points. The Hawks were followed by Boston University (92 points), Hofstra (75) and Delaware (65). The bottom half of the poll included Towson (40), Vermont (38), Maine (34), Northeastern (30) and Drexel (23).

New Hampshire opens the 2000 season Aug. 27 with a home game against Texas-El Paso. Game time at Lewis Field is 3 p.m. The Wildcats begin their America East slate Sept. 22 at Maine.
