WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO PROVIDENCE, 2-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College posted a 2-1 victory over the University of New Hampshire in Women's Soccer action here this afternoon The win improves the Friars to 4-8-0 on the season, while New Hampshire falls to 2-9-0 on the year.

UNH struck just 1:38 into the match when junior Sarah Sargent (Glastonbury, Conn.) netted her first goal of the season to make it 1-0. Senior Jess Halas (Danbury, Conn.) and junior Farrell Swain (West Simsbury, Coon.) assisted on the goal.

The Friars would knot the game just 1:35 later when Katie Auger deposited a pass from Leila Marrash into the net. Kim Carr would net the eventual game-winner in the 24th minute on an unassisted goal.

New Hampshire outshot Providence 9-6 in the second half but was unable to convert any of its scoring chances.

Senior Stephanie Springer (Solana Beach, Calif.) played the first half in net and stopped three shots before giving way to sophomore Kristen Ouellette (Weatogue, Conn.) who also stopped three shots. Caroline Haines stopped seven shots for the Friars.

The Wildcats wrap up their seven-game road swing when they travel to West Point, N.Y. to face Army on Saturday (10/7) at 7:00 p.m. The 'Cats return home next Friday (10/13) when they face Vermont in an America East matchup. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
