DURHAM, N.H. - Senior back Cyndi Poehner (Greenwich, Conn.) was named to the NEWISA All-New England First Team and senior goalkeeper Kristen Ouellette (Weatogue, Conn.) was selected to the Second Team.
Poehner, an America East All-Conference Second Team selection, excelled in her role this season as the leader of the team's defensive effort as the Wildcats shut out the opposition in nine of 18 matches and limited an opponent to one goal in four other games. She was also a weapon on offense, as her counterattacks and dangerous services into the box created scoring opportunities for her teammates. Poehner, whose other 2002 honors included America East All-Championship Team, recorded one goal - the game-winning tallys at Colorado and one assist in 2002.
Ouellette, an All-Conference First Team selection, led America East in both goals-against-average (0.78) and saved percentage (.885). Her GAA broke the school record for a single season. Her impressive overall numbers, which included five shutouts and an 8-3-1 record, improved to a 0.33 GAA and a .947 save percentage in eight league games.
UNH was the No. 2 seed in the America East Championships and ended the season at 10-7-3 (4-1-1 conference).
