New Hampshire women's soccer defeats Temple, 1-0

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Ana Tobon (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored the only goal of the game in the 30th minute to propel the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team to Sunday afternoon's 1-0 victory against Temple University in second-day action of the Vermont Soccer Classic.

Tobon tallied her game-winning goal at 29:51 when she slipped past the Temple defense and fired a low shot beneath Owl goalkeeper Jackie Mauro (eight saves).

UNH senior captain Kristen Ouellette (Weatogue, Conn.) played the first half in goal and earned the victory by recording two saves. Liz MacKay (Scituate, Mass.) shut out Temple by stopping two shots over the final 45 minutes.

The Wildcats (1-1-0) generated a 15-7 shot advantage, including 9-3 in the second half.

Senior midfielder Cyndi Poehner (Greenwich, Conn.), who recorded an assist in UNH's 2-1 loss to Georgia Southern earlier in the tourney, was named to the All-Tournament Team.

New Hampshire returns to action Sept. 6 at Brown University. The Wildcats play their home opener Sept. 8 vs. Dartmouth at 1 p.m.
