New Hampshire women's soccer shuts out Brown, 2-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team scored a goal in each half and senior goalkeeper Kristen Ouellette (Weatogue, Conn.) stopped all nine Brown University shots on target as UNH defeated the Bears 2-0 Friday night at Stevenson Field.

The Wildcats, who shut out their opponent for the second consecutive game to improve to 2-1-0, took a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute when senior Angeline Alexakos (Bedford, N.H.) fired a shot from 25 yards that sailed over Brown goalie Sarah Gervais' head and into the goal.

Ouellette made seven first-half saves to preserve that one-goal advantage and junior Ana Tobon (Philadelphia, Pa.) extended the lead to 2-0 with 7:53 remaining in the game when she beat Gervais with a high shot from 20 yards. It was the second goal in as many games for Tobon, who now leads the 'Cats in goals and points.

This was the season opener for Brown, which recorded a slight edge in overall shots, 15-14, and shots on target (9-8).

New Hampshire returns to action Sept. 8 vs. Dartmouth College for its only home game of the month. Game time at Lewis Fields is 1p.m.
