New Hampshire Women's Soccer Defeats Rhode Island, 2-1

KINGSTON, R.I. - Ashlee Cieslak (Greendale, Wisc.) broke a 1-1 tie with 49 seconds remaining in regulation to lift the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team to Friday's 2-1 victory against the University of Rhode Island at the URI Soccer Complex.

UNH won its second consecutive game to improve to 5-3-0 overall. URI, which recorded a 2-0 victory at two-time defending America East champion Boston University earlier this week, is now 5-3-1.

With the Rams leading 1-0, the Wildcats rallied to victory with two goals in the final five minutes of the match. Reigning America East Rookie of the Week Jackie Wishoski (Malden, Mass.) tied the game, 1-1, when she corralled a pass from Cieslak and slipped a shot to the left of URI goaltender Jamie Epperlein.

Cieslak, who recorded her first career points with a goal in the previous match at Albany, netted the game-winning goal at 89:11 when her shot off a rebound deflected off Epperlein's hands and the crossbar into the goal.

UNH goalkeeper Kristen Ouelette (Weatogue, Conn.) tied her season high with nine saves. Epperlein stopped six shots.

Following a scoreless first half, the Rams took a 1-0 lead 30 seconds into the second half when Claire Landon scored on a penalty kick.

New Hampshire returns to action Oct. 4 with a home match at Lewis Fields vs. Boston University. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
