BOSTON - Chiara Best (Rose Valley, Pa.) scored a goal in the 43rd minute and the goalkeeping tandem of Kristen Ouellette (Weatogue, Conn.) and Liz MacKay (Scituate, Mass.) combined to shut out the opposition for the third time this season to lead the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team to Friday evening's 1-0 America East victory at Northeastern University.
UNH is now 7-4-0 overall and remains in first place in the America East standings with a 3-0-0 conference record. Northeastern is now 4-6-3, 0-2-1.
Both teams were limited to three shots in the first half, but the Wildcats took a 1-0 lead when Best, who scored the game-winning goal in overtime last Friday against Boston University, scored off a deflection at 42:24.
Ouellette made two saves in the first half to earn the victory. MacKay was not credited with a save after entering the game at the start of the second half.
NU goalkeeper Cynthia Slowile was credited with three saves.
New Hampshire returns to action Oct. 15 with a home match against Holy Cross. Game time at Lewis Fields is 3:30 p.m.
