UNH women's soccer upended by Oklahoma State, 3-1

Jackie Wishoski

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Jackie Wishoski (Malden, Mass.) gave the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute, but Oklahoma State rallied to a 3-1 victory in Sunday's second day of action at the Banknorth Soccer Classic, which was held at the University of Vermont's Centennial Field.

UNH, which opened the tourney with a 2-0 win against Lafayette, is now 1-1-0. Oklahoma State improved to 2-0-0.

Wishoski, who scored the game-winning goal vs. Lafayette, converted a pass from Adriana Gonzalez-Medina (Bainbridge, Wash.) into a breakaway goal at 21:35 to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.

Candice Byler tied the game less than five minutes later, however, and goals by Alison Vaughn (at 38:00) and Jere Boykin (42:06) gave OSU a 3-1 halftime lead.

UNH senior goalkeeper Liz MacKay (Scituate, Mass.) made six saves and surrendered three goals in the first half of action. Lynn Gugliuzza (Kenmore, N.Y.) shut out the opposition in the second half with one save. The combined effort by OSU's goalkeeping tandem of Breanna Truelove (zero saves; one goal allowed) and Jeanne Rankin (one save) produced the win.

Wishoski, as well as Kelly Collins (Manchester, N.H.) and Julie Wernig (Steamboat Springs, Colo.), were named to the Banknorth Classic All-Tournament Team.

UNH returns to action next weekend at the Oregon State tournament -- Sept. 3 vs. Oregon State and Sept. 4 vs. Fresno State. The Wildcats play their home opener Sept. 9 (4 p.m.) against intrastate rival Dartmouth College.
