UNH women's soccer edged by Fordham, 3-2

CAPE COD, Mass. -- Haley Lentsch scored three second-half goals to propel the Fordham University women's soccer team to Friday afternoon's 3-2 victory against the University of New Hampshire in the opening match of the 2005 ECAC Classic at Cape Cod Tech.

UNH is now 2-2-0 overall while Fordham is 3-1-0.

New Hampshire took a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute when Sarah Hourihan (Lynnfield, Mass.), the reigning America East Rookie of the Week, scored an unassisted goal in a 1-v-1 situation vs. Fordham goalkeeper Julie Wynns. The lead expanded to 2-0 on an own goal at 42:27 and the 'Cats held that two-goal advantage at halftime.

Lentsch rallied the Rams from their two-goal deficit with goals in the 54th minute and 66th minute to tie the game, then netted the game-winning goal with 6:32 remaining in regulation.

UNH goalkeeper Julie Randall (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was credited with eight saves and Wynns stopped nine shots defending the Fordham goal.

The Wildcats controlled play in the first half and generated a 9-5 shot advantage, but the Rams recorded a 12-1 edge in the second half to finish with a 17-10 shot advantage overall.

New Hampshire concludes play in the ECAC Class vs. Lafayette on Sept. 11 (12 pm). The Wildcats' next home match is Sept. 16 vs. Providence. Game time at Lewis Fields is 4 p.m.
