Wildcat standout has received award three consecutive weeks
BOSTON - Sara Hourihan (Lynnfield, Mass.), a freshman forward on the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team, was named America East Rookie of the Week on Monday. Hourihan has won all three of the conference's Rookie of the Week awards this season.
Hourihan scored two goals in both of UNH's games last week to account for four of the five goals the Wildcats scored vs. Providence and Rhode Island. She scored both of the team's goals in a 2-0 win vs. PC with a tally in the 36th minute, which was her third game-winning goal of the season, and another just 20 seconds into the second half. Against URI, Hourihan's first goal gave the' Cats a 2-0 lead in the sixth minute and her second strike pulled the 'Cats within 5-3 in the 85th minute.
Hourihan has scored two goals in three consecutive games and at least one goal in each of the last five matches. She leads America East in points per game (2.43), goals per game (1.14) and game-winning goals (three).
For the season, Hourihan has 17 points (8g, 1a) in seven games and the UNH rookie scoring record of 21 points was established by Chiara Best in 2001.
Hourihan's other award in 2005 includes ECAC Division I Player of the Week for Sept. 5-11.
New Hampshire (4-3-0 overall) returns to action at home Sept. 21 against the College of the Holy Cross. Game time at Bremner Field is 7 p.m.
