Durham, N.H. - Three members of the University of New Hampshire women’s soccer team have been selected to play in the 2006 New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWSIA) Soccer Bowl, which is to be held on Sunday December 3rd at 12 Noon at Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts.
    Senior goalkeeper Lynn Gugliuzza (Kenmore, N.Y.), midfielder Hillary Mefferd (Portland, Ore.) and forward Amanda Wiggins (Wolfeboro, N.H.) were chosen to represent the University of New Hampshire and NCAA Division 1 women’s soccer throughout the region.
    Gugliuzza posted a 6-11-1 record for the Wildcats en route to seven shutouts and a career-high 93 saves during the season. She also posted a 1.16 goals against average along with an .816 save percentage.
    Mefferd, who garnered All-America East Second Team honors made all 18 starts for the Wildcats and was a tri-captain for a team that made the postseason for a league best sixth straight appearance.
    Wiggins, a dynamic and talented forward for UNH, posted one goal and one assist during the 2006 campaign.
    The New England Intercollegiate Soccer Association, which was formed by coaches back in the 1970's, has held this annual event to honor those players who for four years have helped contribute to the programs and the growth of soccer in New England. The selection was done over a three-week period of nominations and voting done by coaches throughout New England at each division. The game will consist of two teams featuring a combination of Division I, II and III players.
