CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team was selected fourth in the 2012 America East Preseason Coaches' Poll, announced by the conference Monday.
The Wildcats finished with a total of 36 points. Boston University topped the poll with eight first-place votes, tallying 64 points. Hartford also garnered a first-place vote, finishing in the second spot with 56 points. Albany placed third in the voting after receiving 48 points. Stony Brook (33 points) and Vermont (30 points) claimed the fifth and sixth spots, respectively. Maine (25 points) locked up the seventh spot while Binghamton (24 points) and UMBC (8 points) rounded out the poll, respectively.
Last season, the squad reached postseason play for a record 11th straight year. This year the team returns 18 letter winners and brings in eight newcomers. Among those returning is America East All-Rookie selection Meghan Ledwith (Yardley, Pa.) who had a fantastic first year with the Wildcats, tallying three goals and two assists for eight points. Senior midfielder Monique LaMotte (Tampa, Fla.), a 2011 first-team all conference selection also returns to the pitch for New Hampshire for 2012. LaMotte started all 19 games played in 2011 and tallied a goal and two assists.
Erica Correa (Cheshire, Conn.) is back for her third season between the pipes for the 'Cats. Correa tallied a 1.46 goals against average in 2011 and a save percentage of .755, along with a trio of shutouts.
New Hampshire will play its first match of the season in an exhibition contest at Franklin Pierce on Aug. 19 (1:00 p.m.). Regular-season play will start when the team travels to the TD Bank Vermont Classic Aug. 24 to take on Fairfield at 1:30 p.m.
