Women's Soccer Drops 4-0 Decision to CCSU
BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team wrapped up play at the TD Bank Vermont Classic at the University of Vermont with a 4-0 loss to Central Connecticut State University. The loss drops the Wildcats to 1-1-0 on the season while the Blue Devils improve to 1-2-0.
CCSU jumped out in front in the fourth minute of play when Jewel Robinson found a through-pass from Allison Kelley and put it away for a 1-0 lead. The two teams deadlocked in shots though the first half of play, each registering five. Despite the offense, the score remained 1-0 at the end of the half.
The Blue Devils struck again in the 52nd minute of play when Robinson found Taylor O'Leary on a cross into the box. O'Leary struck the cross with a one-time volley, finding the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. In the 64th minute, CCSU's Kelley pushed the lead to 3-0 when she finished a cross from Kerriann Welch at the six yard mark. Lauren Varholak capped off the scoring for CCSU in the 89th minute as the shot she took struck the bottom of the cross bar and edged pass the line, giving them a 4-0 lead.
Erica Correa (Cheshire, Conn.) made a trio of saves on the day for the Wildcats as Nikola Dieter stopped all four shots on target by New Hampshire. The two teams both finished with 10 tallies in the shot column. Kirstyn Corder (Overland Park, Kansas) aced the offense for UNH as she fired off three shots, two of which were on target.
The Wildcats are back in action Friday, August 31 (6 p.m.) when they travel to Northeastern for an evening game.
