DURHAM, N.H. - Senior Shannon Daly (Brightwaters, N.H.) and sophomore Kary Goodman (South Windham, Maine) of the University of New Hampshire women's swimming and diving team have been invited to compete at the 2006 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships to be held March 16-18 in Athens, Georgia at the University of Georgia.
Daly and Goodman are among two of the 322 swimmers invited from the 62 Division I institutions. This is the first invite for Goodman while Daly was selected as an alternate during the 2004-05 campaign. New Hampshire is the only America East institution and only one of two schools in New England competing at the championships.
Daly is ranked 24th overall in the 200-breaststroke (2 minutes 14.85 seconds) and will also compete in the 200-individual medley (2:02.28) and 100-breaststroke (1:03.38), according to the official NCAA Psyche Sheet released on March 3. She set all three of her qualifying times at this year's America East Championships, held at Boston University.
Goodman is ranked 25th in the 200-butterfly and will also compete in the 100 and 200-backstroke. Goodman also set her qualifying times for the 100 and 200-back at the America East Championships while her time in the 200-fly was met at this year's Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, held at the University of Pittsburgh. She was named this year's ECAC Swimmer of the Year.
The last time New Hampshire had a swimmer qualify was All-American Denise Leckenby, who was selected in 1999.
