DURHAM, N.H. – Seniors Ashlee Lathrop (Sherburne, N.Y.) and Rita Ciambra (Hanover, N.H.) each won individual titles to lead the University of New Hampshire women's outdoor track & field team to a second-place finish after day one of the America East Championships on May 1 at UNH's Reggie F. Atkins Track & Field Facility.

The Wildcats finished with 51.50 points, to place behind the University at Albany (60), but ahead of the University of Maine (31), Binghamton University (24), Boston University (20.50), the University of Vermont (20), Stony Brook University (19) and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (8).

Lathrop won her second consecutive hammer throw title with an ECAC-qualifying toss of 54.67m. Freshman Rosemary Read (West Greenwhich, R.I.) and senior Kate Ouhrabka (East Greenwhich, R.I.) placed third and eighth, respectively, with marks of 49.31m and 43.80m.

Ciambra captured her second outdoor pole vault title with an America East-record and ECAC-qualifying leap of 4.01m. Ciambra, who also owns the indoor pole vault record, broke the 2004 mark set by Northeastern's Laura Chmielewski. Senior Victoria Goodheart (Meredith, N.H.) placed eighth with a mark of 3.00m.

In the long jump, juniors Camille Quarles (Derry, N.H.), Megan Donohue (Stratham, N.H.) and Megan McGrath (Merrimack, N.H.) finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, with leaps of 5.60m, 5.50m and 5.49m.

In the 10,000m, sophomore Sydney Fitzpatrick (Billerica, Mass.), freshman Elizabeth Campbell (Colonia, N.J.), junior Courtney Hamer (Andover, Mass.) and senior Nicole Wrobel (Bedford, N.H.) placed fifth through eighth, respectively, in times of 36:38.58, 37:01.88, 38:05.66 and 38:47.75.

Junior Jennifer Racine (Haverhill, Mass.) placed eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 11:19.51.

Sophomore Kate Early (Corning, N.Y.) finished eighth in the javelin with a throw of 32.84m .

After four events of the heptathlon, junior Kaitlyn Dugan (Hatfield, Pa.) and senior Kelly Thomas (Chichester, N.H.) placed third and fifth, respectively, with 2,673 and 2,579 points.

Senior Tayla Ryan (Norwood, Mass.) qualified for Sunday's 100-meter hurdle final with an eighth-place preliminary finish in a time of 14.99.

Junior Chelsey Canavan (Stoneham, Mass.) and sophomore Kaitlin Kwiecien (Hampstead, N.H.) finished fourth and seventh, respectively, in the 400m preliminaries in times of 57,18 and 57.47 to move on to Sunday's final.

Senior Megan Donohue (Stratham, N.H.) placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdle preliminary in a time of 1:02.70 to advance to Sunday's final.

The Wildcats return to action at day two of the America East Championships on Sunday, May 2 at 9 a.m.
