DURHAM, N.H. – University of New Hampshire women's track & field freshman Rosie Read (West Greenwhich, R.I.) will be competing in the USATF Junior National Championships in Des Moines, Iowa this week.

Read will be competing in the hammer throw Thursday, June 24 (5:30 p.m.) at Drake Stadium, which is home to the Drake Relays, as well as the 2011 NCAA Championships. Read qualified for the meet with a throw of 49.31 meters at the America East Championships, which were held at UNH's Reggie F. Atkins Track & Field Facility. Read finished third at the meet, which added to her outstanding spring season.

Read will be aiming to make the USA Junior team that will compete at the World Junior Championships in late July in Moncton, New Brunswick. The top three juniors in each event qualify for the team, while the fourth will be an alternate.

The UNH men's and women's teams have sent qualifiers to Junior Nationals for three of the last four years. In the past, seniors Brice Paey (Milton, N.H.) and Chris Morgan (Goffstown, N.H.), as well as juniors Camille Quarles (Derry, N.H.), Megan Donahue (Stratham, N.H.), and Mike Simon (Durham, Conn.), have all competed at the USA Junior National meet.
