Women’s Track & Field Strong at Wildcat Invitational I

DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore Rosemary Read (West Greenwich, R.I.), juniors Elizabeth Adejuyigbe (Penacook, N.H.) and Allison Letourneau (Kingston, Nova Scotia) and graduate student Rita Ciambra (Hanover, N.H.) each won an event as the University of New Hampshire women's track & field team played host to the Wildcat Invitational I on Saturday, April 9 at the Reggie F. Atkins Track & Field Facility.

The Wildcats were joined at the non-scoring meet by the University of Vermont, the University of Maine, Dartmouth College, Northeastern University and Holy Cross as well as select few members from Colby Sawyer and Gordon College.

Adejuyigbe claimed the 100m with a time of 12.73 while freshman Katherine Woods (Essex, Conn.) and sophomore Allison Brehm (Pembroke, N.H.) took second and third in the event with times of 12.98 and 13.03, respectively. Adejuyigbe also placed second in the 200m with a time of 26.19.

Letourneau won the 800m with a time of 2:12.41 while Ciambra, the reigning America East outdoor pole vault champion, took first in the event with a cleared height of 3.57m.

Read picked up a first-place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 10.49m.

Also in the field, senior Meghan McGrath (Merrimack, N.H.), sophomore Melanie Frazier (Bridgewater, Mass.) and Woods placed second, third and fourth in the long jump with marks of 5.41m, 5.29m and 5.19m, respectively.

Senior Kaitlyn Dugan (Hatfield, Pa.) finished fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.57m while freshman Stephanie Walsh (Penacook, N.H.) turned in a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 10.49m.

In the triple jump, senior Camille Quarles (Derry, N.H.), junior Danica Goodheart (Meredith, N.H.) and senior Jasmin Washington (Waltham, Mass.) finished second, third and fourth, respectively, with jumps of 12.11m, 11.24m and 10.35m.

In the long jump, McGrath, Frazier and Woods took second, third and fourth, respectively, with leaps of 5.41m, 5.29m and 5.19m.

On the track, sophomore Lucy Garfield finished second in the 3000m steeplechase as she crossed the finish line in 12:15.42.

In the 400m, senior Kaitlin Kwiecien (Hampstead, N.H.) finished fourth with a time of 58.95.

Freshman Elise Beattie (Woodstock, Ill.) turned in a fourth-place finish in the 5000m with a time of 18:02.55 while junior Kate Early (Corning, N.Y.) claimed fifth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.16.

The Wildcats' 4x100-meter relay team of Adejuyigbe, freshman Caroline Bonsaint (Hampton, N.H.), Frazier and Brehm finished second in a time of 49.25.

The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, April 16 when they play host to the Wildcat Invitational II at the Reggie F. Atkins Track & Field Facility.
