Women’s Track & Field Impressive at Home Tri-Meet
DURHAM, N.H. – Junior Allison Brehm (Pembroke, N.H.) won a pair of events and senior Laura Stern (Shirley, Mass.) remained unbeaten in the javelin this season as the University of New Hampshire women's track & field team hosted a non-scoring tri-meet on Saturday at the Reggie F. Atkins Track & Field Facility.
The Wildcats were joined by the University of Maine as well as the College of the Holy Cross.
On the track, Brehm picked up right where she off from last week with another pair of victories, winning the 100 and 200 meters in respective times of 12.23 and 25.53. Freshman Morgan Costa (Standish, Maine) claimed third in the 100 meters in a time of 12.68.
Stern continued her impressive start to the outdoor season, winning the javelin for the third straight week with an ECAC-qualifying toss of 139.00.
Junior Rosemary Read (West Greenwich, R.I.), the reigning America East Field Performer of the Week, won the hammer throw with an ECAC-qualifying toss of 171-04. Junior Keyla Salazar (Nashua, N.H.) finished third in the event at 142-02.
The 'Cats swept the long jump, led by sophomore Caroline Bonsaint (Hampton, N.H.) with a winning leap of 17-10.75. Junior Melanie Frazier (Bridgewater, Mass.) and senior Danica Goodheart (Meredith, N.H.) finished second and third, respectively, at 17-10.25 and 17-03.25.
Goodheart also captured the triple jump with a leap of 37-02.25.
New Hampshire also swept the top three spots in the high jump, paced by freshman Jessica Salley's (Andover, Mass.) cleared height of 5-03.75. Senior Kate Early (Corning, N.Y.) and freshman Emily Hutchinson (Newton, Mass.) took second and third, respectively, with leaps of 5-03.75 and 5-01.75.
Freshman Abigail Huntress (Saco, Maine) won the shot put with a toss of 39-05.00.
Sophomore Stephanie Walsh (Penacook, N.H.) took second in the discus with a toss of 131-10.
Senior Jennifer Racine (Haverhill, Mass.) turned-in a second place finish in the 800 meters, crossing the line at 2:21.55, while sophomore Elise Beattie (Woodstock, Ill.) finished third in the 3,000 meters 10:05.93.
Freshman Virginia LaVallee (Kingston, N.H.) finished second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.04, while Early took third with a time of 15.41.
In the 400 meters, freshman Caroline Hammond (Lexington, Mass.) and Jaden Riendeau finished second and third, respectively, in times of 1:01.65 and 1:07.56.
Junior Meagan Boucher (Manchester, N.H.) added a third-place finish in the 1,500 meters, recording a time of 4:50.27. Boucher also recorded a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:11.40, while sophomore Kathryn Darmody (Westport, Mass.) took third in the event at 1:12.54.
The Wildcats' 4x100 meter relay team of Bonsaint, Frazier, Costa and Brehm finished first in a time of 49.61.
New Hampshire returns to action on Saturday, April 14 when they host the Wildcat Invitational I at the Reggie F. Atkins Track & Field Facility at 11 a.m.
