DURHAM, N.H. – Senior Laura Stern (Shirley, Mass.) won the javelin for the fourth time this season to remain unbeaten in the event as the University of New Hampshire women's outdoor track & field team played host to the Wildcat Invitational on Saturday at the Reggie F. Atkins Track.
The University of Maine, Bowdoin, Colby-Sawyer and Fitchburg State also took part in the non-scoring meet.
Stern remained unbeaten in the javelin this season as she captured the event for the fourth straight week with an ECAC-qualifying toss of 136-08. Sophomore Michelle Gearin (York, Maine) was runner-up in the event with a toss of 117-01.
Graduate student Allison Letourneau (Kingston, Nova Scotia) captured the 800 meters, crossing the finish line in an ECAC-qualifying time of 2:10.68, marking the second-best time in school history. Junior Keely Maguire (Georgetown, Mass.) was not far behind in second place in a time of 2:13.87.
The Wildcats swept the top three spots in the high jump, led by freshman Jessica Salley (Andover, Mass.) with a cleared height of 5-07.75 to qualify for the ECAC Championships. Her mark was also the second-best in the history of the program. Junior Marie Collins and freshman Emily Hutchinson (Newton, Mass.) placed second and third, respectively, at 5-01.75 and 4-11.75.
Junior Rosemary Read (West Greenwich, R.I.) finished runner-up in the hammer throw with an ECAC-qualifying toss of 168-00.
Freshman Abigail Huntress (Saco, Maine) won the shot put for the second time in as many weeks with a toss of 41-05.75.
On the track, New Hampshire also swept the 3,000-meter steeplechase, paced by junior Meagan Boucher (Manchester, N.H.) with a winning time of 11:14.85. Junior Lucy Garfield (Hanover, N.H.) and freshman Marina Slavin (Durham, N.H.) finished second and third, respectively, in times of 11:25.16 and 11:37.21.
Freshman Virginia Lavallee (Kingston, N.H.) finished third in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.17, while sophomore Margaret Lubanko (Durham, N.H.) took third in the 3,000 meters with a time of 11:09.19.
Sophomore Stephanie Walsh (Penacook, N.H.) took third in the discus with a throw of 120-04.
The 'Cats 4x400 meter relay team of junior Melanie Frazier (Bridgewater, Mass.), freshman Racheal DePalma (Orange, Conn.), sophomore Kathryn Darmody (Westport, Mass.) and Costa finished first in a time of 4:04.01.
The Wildcats return to action on April 18-19 at the Holy Cross Heptathlon.
