Durham, NH - The University of New Hampshire women's volleyball team hosted its annual awards banquet on Saturday, April 15 at the Roberge Community Center in Rochester.
Senior co-captain Leisha Campbell (Oswego, NY) was named the Most Valuable Player of the team by her teammates. Campbell was an America East All-Conference second team member and earned America East All-Tournament honors this past season. Campbell finished her career second all-time in career kills (819), attack attempts (2,243) and total blocks (353).
Freshman Sasha Scott (Branford, Conn.) earned the Coaches Award as the Unsung Hero of the Wildcats squad. Senior Carrie Brandon (Midland, Mich.) won the first annual Judy Ray Academic Excellence Award for her performance in the classroom.
Juniors Kim Mirts-Poen (Essex, Iowa) and Stacy Barnett (Crystal Lake, Ill.) will serve as co-captains for the upcoming 2000 season.
The Wildcats will open the season on Friday, September 1 when they host the UNH Tournament in Lundholm Gymnasium. The other teams participating are the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Eastern Michigan and the University of Utah.
