FAYETTEVILLE, ARK. - The University of New Hampshire women's volleyball team defeated Louisiana Tech University, 3-0 in the final match of the Lady Razorback Invitational on Saturday evening. The game scores were 15-3, 15-9, 16-14.
In the first match of the day, New Hampshire lost 1-3 to 20th-ranked University of Arkansas in the final day of action at Barnhill Arena. The game scores were 15-8, 15-10, 15-11, 15-0.
With the split UNH is now 6-6 overall on the year, while Arkansas improves to 9-2 and Louisiana Tech drops to 2-10.
In the Louisiana Tech match, junior hitter Jillian Ross (Naperville, Ill.) led the Wildcats, recording a team-high 11 kills, hitting for a .375 hitting percentage and adding three service aces. Senior co-captain Bethany Cole (Canterbury, N.H.) and junior hitter Kim Mirts-Poen (Essex, Iowa) each tallied nine kills in the win for the Cats'. Junior setter Stacy Barnett (Crystal Lake, Ill.) notched a team-high 38 assists and 16 digs.
In the Arkansas contest, UNH received strong outings from Ross who posted a team-high 17 kills and 16 digs. Barnett recorded a match and season-high 60 assists, while adding 13 digs. Juniors Mirts-Poen and Jennifer Walker (Fulton, N.Y.) each recorded 11 kills apiece. Senior co-captains Cole and Leisha Campbell (Oswego, N.Y.) tallied 14 and 12 kills respectively.
UNH returns to action, next weekend, Friday September 24 at the UConn Invitational in Storrs, Conn. The Cats' face Southern Methodist on Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. and the University of New Mexico at 2:30 p.m.
