Wildcat Volleyball Loses Pair to Harvard and UConn

STORRS, Conn.- The University of New Hampshire women's volleyball team finished in third place with a 2-3 loss to Connecticut in the UConn Husky Classic at Gampel pavilion on Saturday evening. In the last game, UNH was down 7-1 and battled back to even the score at 11, but UConn was too tough down the stretch. The game scores were 9-15, 15-8, 15-7, 10-15 and 13-15.

UNH lost its first match of the UConn Classic earlier in the day to Harvard, 2-3. The game scores were 9-15, 15-17, 15-12, 15-4 and 10-15.

In the UConn match, the Wildcats received strong outings from junior Jen Walker (Fulton, N.Y.) who posted a match-high 18 kills and seven total blocks. Senior co-captain Bethany Cole (Canterbury, N.H.) recorded 16 kills and hit for a .325 hitting percentage.

In the Harvard contest, the 'Cats were powered by junior Katie Jentes (Madbury, N.H.) who tallied a season and match-high 24 kills. Jentes also added nine digs and two blocks on defense. Cole and senior co-captain Leisha Campbell (Oswego, N.Y.) each recorded season-highs in kilss with 20 and 22 respectively. Campbell also chipped in with a match-high 16 digs, while classmate Cole added a match-high six total blocks. Jentes earned All-Tournament honors for her performance this weekend.

UNH returns to action on Wednesday, September 29 as they face intrastate rival Dartmouth at 7 p.m. in Hanover, N.H.
